timelines
Setting up a treatment schedule is an excellent first step. Couples must consider how many stages and cycles of treatments they are prepared or willing to undergo and/or how many they can afford. Feelings and opinions must be openly shared, because infertility is best approached in partnership. Decisions about treatments are much easier to reach if both parties can discuss this openly and honestly.
The schedules and paths that a couple chooses are dependent on their own unique situation. Others can provide advice and opinions, but only you as a couple can decide which treatment schedule is best for you – what works, what doesn’t. That said, you should be aware that any schedule will never be absolutely concrete and will need fine-tuning as treatment progresses.
the first steps
When setting up a schedule, couples should ask themselves the following questions:
- What are our financial limitations?
- Who can support us?
- How does the treatment sit with our spiritual and moral beliefs?
- What are our feelings in relation to treatment?
- How far do we want to follow the procedure?

the following steps
In order to help decision-making, couples should ask their fertility specialist the following questions:
- What is the recommended number of (treatment) cycles for each treatment option being considered?
- How much time is needed between the individual treatment cycles?
- To what extent is age a determining factor in our schedule?
- What are the chances of achieving pregnancy with each of our treatment options?
- How much will a certain treatment cost?
